so you wanna be a
screamster...
when times are dark, the dark
get going. people need more than just a casual "wave and smile"
combo to satisfy their cravings for human interaction. what better way
to find a sense of community than to start your own Midnight Society chapter?
it's easier than skinning vampires with a fine-toothed comb and a pair
of fingernail clippers. if you're bored, if you have delusions of grandeur,
or if you're just feeling that urge to get motivated, this is for you.
what exactly do you want
this organization to accomplish? the original Midnight Society goes
ghosthunting, tells stories, and does research about the paranormal
and other subjects of interest. you can take on as many or as little
of these facets as you'd like...or make up your own protocol. you also
need to decide how often you'll meet, and where.

a good Midnight Society
always starts out with good ideas. you've heard rumors here and there
about different places around town that are "haunted," or
people who can "see things." seek them out. research all those
places and stories and people you've been curious about. make plans
to get more information, first-hand, if possible. make a stockpile of
good stories you've heard, as well as your own experiences. make a list
of scary movies you're willing to watch (with a large group of friends
surrounding you, of course). and remember: when in doubt...the classics
always work.
your Society will probably
start with the people you know best: your friends. it's a good reason
to get together once a week, or once a month, or whatever. not only
will like-minded friends be enthusiastic, they'll probably offer to
help you orchestrate things. don't be afraid to delegate authority.
have elections, and put people in charge of different areas. if nothing
else, being an officer will give them something unique to put on their
resumes. after you've got the core group, your Society will be a great
way to meet new people who share your interests, and to learn from what
they know as well.

enlist others to help you
come up with ideas for your meetings. don't forget to have plenty of
parties; at least 1 to every 3 serious meetings. the payment you get
for doing this is the enjoyment you get out of it. keep good records
of your conquests, including pictures if possible. feel free to make
a web site to tie things together. you can always contact us to use graphics or get ideas. other ways to communicate include
creating a Myspace group (which will allow
you to use the bulletin board and to find new people) or an email list.
in no time, your Society will be a well-oiled machine. the grave's the
limit!
