Brewery tunnels -- Richmond
- Locate on the Virginia Lore Map at Platial
- Scott from VT Underground originally set us on the track of this one: "It's somewhat common knowledge that Yuengling operated a brewery in Richmond in the late 1800's, and that the brewery caves are still accessible (actually, they're being converted into a restaurant as we speak). But, few
people know that Peter Stumpfs operated a brewery on Church Hill around the same time, and that there are still brewery caves UNDER chimborazo park. I know where in the park they are, but unfortunately the entrance is well-buried. During WWII they were actually going to be used as a bomb shelter for residents of Church Hill, in case of Nazi bombers."
